Hengyang, the second largest city in Hunan Province. Otherwise known as Yancheng and Henzhou, it is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, a provincial sub-center city, a national type-II large city, and a third-tier city, located in the south of China and the south-central part of Hunan Province. The city has five districts, five counties, and two county-level cities under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 15,310 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the city's resident population was 6,577,400.
Hengyang City is an important member of the city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the political, economic, military and cultural center of the southern Hunan region, and is positioned by the state as a key city in the central region. The urban area of Hengyang straddles the Xiangjiang River and is one of the important transportation hubs in Hunan Province as well as in the central and southern regions. Hengyang is an important industrial city in the central-south region, one of the pilot demonstration cities in the "Made in China 2025" pilot demonstration city cluster, with Hunan's first comprehensive bonded zone and national high-tech zones, and is positioned as a national demonstration zone for industrial transfer and a key site for the national processing trade. Hengyang is also a pilot city for comprehensive reform of the national service industry, a national ecological civilization pilot demonstration zone, a national health city, a national garden city, and a "Chinese War Memorial City". In addition, there are "Yanfeng Smoke and Rain", "Shigu River and Mountain", "Zhuling Back Cave", "Green Grass Fisherman", "Herb Spring Stream", and "Anther Spring Stream" in Hengyang. There are also eight scenic spots in Hengyang, such as "Yanfeng Smoke and Rain", "Shigu River and Mountain", "Zhuling Back Cave", "Green Grass Fisherman's House", "Anther Spring Stream", "Yueping Snow Clearing", "Dongzhou Peach Wave" and "White Lotus in West Lake".
In 2022, Hengyang city realized a gross regional product of 408.969 billion yuan, an increase of 5.2% year-on-year.
