Yiyang City, also known as Yincheng and Lidu, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, an important member of the city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, one of the core cities of the Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone, and an important member of the ChangZhuTan 3+5 city cluster. As of 2022, the city has two districts and three counties under its jurisdiction, with one county-level city in its stead, covering a total area of 123,202 square kilometers, with a resident population of 3,793,600, an urban population of 1,969,500, and an urbanization rate of 51.9%. Yiyang City is located in the north-central part of Hunan Province, on the south shore of Dongting Lake, residing in the northern part of Xuefeng Mountain and its remaining veins, with geographic coordinates ranging from 27°58'38″ to 29°31'42″ north latitude and 110°43'02″ to 112°55'48″ east longitude, with the longest distance from east to west of 217 kilometers, and the widest distance from north to south of 173 kilometers. It is near the Yangtze River in the north and in the same area as Hubei Province. It is close to the Yangtze River in the north, bordering Shishou City in Hubei Province, bordering Changde City and Huaihua City in the west and southwest of the province, neighboring Loudi City in the south, and close to Yueyang City and Changsha City, the capital of the province, in the east and southeast of the city. Yiyang City is the hometown of Chinese Badminton, the hometown of Chinese Bamboo, the hometown of Chinese Black Tea, the freshwater fishing capital of China, and the nest of Flower Drum Opera. It has been awarded the titles of Provincial-level Garden City, China's Distinguished Green Eco-City, National Forest City, National Sanitary City, National Civilized City Nominee City, and Famous Historical and Cultural City of Hunan Province, and has been a rich fish and rice country of the South of Yangtze River since ancient times. In 2023, the gross regional product of Yiyang City will be 213.621 billion yuan, an increase of 3.4% from 2022.
