Anxiang County, belonging to Changde City, Hunan Province, is located in the northwestern part of Dongting Lake, which is the northern gate of Hunan Province, and is at the junction of four cities and eight counties of Hunan and Hubei Provinces, with geographic coordinates between longitude 110°59'-112°18' and latitude 29°08'-29°46', and covering a total area of 1,087 square kilometers. It belongs to the core circle of Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone, and is the necessary place for the flood discharge of the Yangtze River's "Three Mouths" (Taiping Mouth, Lotus Pond Mouth and Songzi Mouth) and the injection of river water into Dongting Lake. As of 2022, Anxiang County has 8 towns and 4 townships under its jurisdiction. According to the seventh census, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Anxiang County was 427,412 people.
Anxiang County was founded in 16 (40) years after Jianwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty, known as Zuotang, and was renamed Anxiang in the North and South Dynasties, which has been inherited to the present day. There are a number of ancient cultural sites of primitive society in the Neolithic era, such as Tangjiagang, Zuochenggang and Toujiagang. As the residents in Anxiang territory mainly immigrated from Jiangxi, Hubei and Changsha, Yiyang, etc., the unique Huxiang culture, Diyuan culture and typical immigrant culture and thick dock culture of Anxiang have been formed.
In 2021, the annual GDP of Anxiang County completed 24.02 billion yuan, an increase of 7.9%.
