Ningling County, belonging to Shangqiu City, Henan Province, is located in the southeastern part of Henan Province, bordering Shangqiu City in the east, Suixian County in the west, neighboring with Zhecheng County in the south, and connecting with Shangqiu City and Minquan County in the north by the Yellow River's old road, with the geographic coordinates of longitude 115°15′-115°30′E and latitude 34°14′-34°34′N. It has a length of 37.5 kilometers from north to south and a width of 19.5 kilometers from east to west. It is 37.5 kilometers long from north to south and 19.5 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 798 square kilometers. It has a warm-temperate semi-humid monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, an average annual temperature of 14.2°C, an average annual precipitation of 674.7 mm, and belongs to the Yellow River alluvial plain, which is dominated by sandy soils and two-composite soils. As of 2018, Ningling County has jurisdiction over 14 townships, an industrial cluster, a specialty business district, 364 administrative villages (neighborhood committees), and the county government is located in Chengguan Town. As of 2018, Ningling County has a total population of 650,000 people. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Ningling County was 524,300.
In ancient times, it was Ge land, and during the Xia, Shang, and Zhou periods, it was Ge state (also known as Ge Bo state), and Ningling county was first established in the first year of Yuanhali of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty (122 BC), and in 1997, Shangqiu was abolished as a district and established as a city, and Ningling county was subordinate to the city of Shangqiu.
In 2022, Ningling County's GDP was 20.118 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.0% at comparable prices.
