Zhenping County, belonging to Nanyang City, Henan Province, is located in the southwestern part of Henan Province, northwest of the Nanyang Basin, and at the southern foot of the Funiu Mountains. It is bordered by Wolong District of Nanyang City in the east, Dengzhou City in the south, Neixiang County in the west, and Nanzhao County in the north, with a total area of 1,494 square kilometers. As of 2019, Zhenping County has a total population of 1,049,400 people. There are 32 ethnic groups, including 31 ethnic minorities, totaling 68,700 people, accounting for 6.3% of the total population. As of October 2021, Zhenping County has 3 streets, 15 towns, and 4 townships under its jurisdiction.
Zhenping takes the meaning of deterring and quelling rebellions. Zhenping County was established in the third year of Jin Zhengda (1226), under the state of Shenzhou. in 1994, it came under the city of Nanyang. It is a national export food quality and safety demonstration county, a pilot county for the development of rooftop distributed photovoltaic, a basic balanced county for the development of national compulsory education, and the hometown of Chinese magnolia. Zhenping jade carving is a national intangible cultural heritage.
Zhenping has a long history and deep cultural heritage, with the famous poet Yuan Haowen as the first county magistrate, "Lao Zhuang" discussing Taoism here, Zhang Zhongjing's "Treatise on Miscellaneous Diseases of Typhoid Fever" being formed here, Peng Yuting pioneering the local self-government in Wanshi, and nourishing a number of academicians of the two academies, such as Du Xiangwan, Wang Zhanguo, Wang Guangqian, etc. It is a modern and famous academician of both academies. "It is the hometown of Peng Xuefeng, a famous general and revolutionary martyr Guo Ziangsheng.
In 2019, Zhenping County's gross regional product amounted to 25.693 billion yuan, an increase of 7.1% over the same period of the previous year. Among them, the added value of primary industry was 3.56 billion yuan, the added value of secondary industry was 8.11 billion yuan, and the added value of tertiary industry was 14.02 billion yuan. The structure of the three industries changed to 13.8:31.6:54.6, and the per capita GDP was 29,615 yuan.
