Tongguan District, belonging to Tongling City, Anhui Province, is located in the south-central part of Anhui Province, the southwest of Tongling City and the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is connected to Yi'an District in the east and southeast, across the river from the suburbs in the west, and to Yi'an District in the north, with a total area of 145.03 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Tongguan District has 20 streets and 1 town under its jurisdiction, with 2 other development zones. As of the end of 2022, Tongguan District had a resident population of 452,000 people.
Tongguan District, named after the only "Tongguan" in the Western Han Dynasty, has rich mineral resources within its jurisdiction, abounding in gold, silver, copper, iron, sulfur and other resources, bringing together the "Asia's first deep well" Dongguashan Copper Mine with a reserve of 1 million tons, Xinqiao Sulfur Iron Ore Mine with a reserve of 280 million tons, the "Anhui Gold Mine", the "Anhui Gold Mine", and the "Anhui Sulfur Iron Mine". Xinqiao copper mine with a reserve of 280 million tons, which is the second largest in China, and Chaoshan gold mine, which is the first village of gold in Anhui Province, are among the many metal mines in Tongguan District. Tongguan District brings together scientific and educational resources such as Tongling College, Tongling Vocational and Technical College, Anhui Industrial Vocational and Technical College, etc., and humanistic and natural landscapes such as the national 4A level tourist scenic area Tianjing Lake with Tongguan Mountain and Wulumu Mountain.
In 2022, Tongguan District (excluding the western park of Tongling Economic and Technological Development Zone) realized a GDP of 37.218 billion yuan, and in terms of sub-industries, the added value of the primary industry increased by 3.2% year-on-year, the added value of the secondary industry increased by 4.3% year-on-year, and the added value of the tertiary industry increased by 1.9%. The structural ratio of the three industries was 0.1:38:61.9.
