Bengbu City, also known as Zhucheng, Anhui Province, prefecture-level city, located in northeastern Anhui Province, the middle reaches of the Huaihe River, is located in China's north-south geographic demarcation line of the Qinling-Huaihe River line, the Yellow-Huaihai Plain and the transition zone of the Jianghuai Hills, the north subtropical humid monsoon climate and the southern temperate zone of the transition zone of the semi-humid monsoon climate zone, with a total area of 5,951 square kilometers. As of March 2023, the city has four districts and three counties under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Bengbu had a resident population of 3.309 million.
On January 1, 1947, Bengbu was officially established as a city. In ancient times, Bengbu was named after the many mussels, meaning a dock full of mussels. Bengbu is one of the birthplaces of Huaihe River culture. The engraved symbols unearthed at the Shuangdun culture site 7,300 years ago were recognized as one of the important origins of Chinese writing; the water-control hero Dayu split the mountain and guided the Huaihe River and summoned the lords here; and the flower-drum lanterns, which are the most representative folk dance of the Han Chinese people and have been passed down to the present day, were hailed as "Oriental Ballet" by Premier Zhou Enlai. Flower Drum Lantern, the most representative folk dance of the Han nationality, was honored by Premier Zhou Enlai as "Oriental Ballet" and listed as one of the first batch of intangible cultural heritages in China. There are 4A-level tourist attractions such as Mount Tu and Zhang Gong Lake within the city. Bengbu City is the central city of Huaihe River Basin and northern Anhui region, which is explicitly supported by Anhui Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, and is a national civilized city, national model city of double embrace, national garden city, and an important comprehensive transportation hub city in east China, and Bengbu Port is the first big port of Huaihe River for thousands of miles.
In 2022, Bengbu's gross regional product will be 20.23 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2%.
