Wuxing District, belonging to Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the north of Zhejiang Province, the central part of Huzhou City, the south shore of Taihu Lake, bordering Nanxun District of Huzhou City and Wujiang District of Suzhou City in the east, Deqing County in the south, Anji County and Changxing County in the west, and Taihu Lake in the north, and Suzhou City and Wuxi City in Jiangsu Province across the lake, with a total area of 871.9 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Wuxing District has 13 streets, 5 towns, and 1 township under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Wuxing District had a household population of 449,000 people. Wuxing is the ancient name of Huzhou, and Wuxing County was established in the Three Kingdoms, including the area of present-day Huzhou, taking the meaning of "the prosperity of the Kingdom of Wu". Wuxing is the birthplace of silk culture, Qianshanyang site unearthed more than 4,000 years ago, the world's oldest silk fabrics, in 2015 was named "the source of the world silk". Wuxing is the birthplace of tea culture, where Lu Yu, the tea saint, wrote "The Book of Tea"; it is the birthplace of culture in the ruined port, and in 2016, the ruined port of Taihu Lake was selected as the World Irrigation Engineering Heritage List. Wuxing is the source of calligraphy and painting, which has nurtured and attracted a large number of great calligraphers and painters such as Cao Buxing, Wang Xizhi, Yan Zhenqing, Su Dongpo, Zhao Mengfu and so on. Modern celebrities such as Chen Yingshi, Qian Sanqiang and Wang Wei were born here. Wuxing is one of the second batch of pilot areas in Zhejiang High Quality Development and Common Wealth Demonstration Zone; in October 2021, it was selected as one of the "2021 China's Top 100 Smart City Counties and Cities" list. In 2022, Wuxing District realized a gross domestic product (GDP) of 89.73 billion yuan, and in terms of sub-industries, the added value of the primary industry was 2.52 billion yuan, the added value of the secondary industry was 42.11 billion yuan, and the added value of the tertiary industry was 45.09 billion yuan. The structure of primary, secondary and tertiary industries was adjusted to 2.8:46.9:50.3. The per capita GDP, calculated on the basis of resident population, amounted to 123,420 yuan.
