Shaya County, belongs to Aksu Region of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is located in the south-east of Xinjiang Aksu Region, in the north of Tarim Basin, at the south end of Weigan River Oasis Plain, with Tianshan Mountain in the north and the desert in the south. It is an important passage of the ancient Silk Road and an important part of the ancient Guzi State. The administrative area covers 31,848 square kilometers, and as of October 2021, Shaya County is under the jurisdiction of 7 towns and 4 townships.At the end of 2019, the household population of Shaya County was 263,280, and there are 22 ethnic groups such as Uyghurs, Han Chinese, Russians, etc., of which Uyghurs amount to 86%, which makes it a multi-ethnic settlement county. The area can be roughly divided into three major parts, namely the Weigan River Alluvial Fan Plain, the Tarim River Valley Plain, and the desert. Shaya is a transcription of the Uyghur word "Shayar". Sha means "tribal chief", and Yaer means "to care for", i.e., "the chief caresses his subordinates". It is one of the four major civilizations in the world. The Han culture of the Central Plains, the Buddhist culture of South Asia, the Persian Arab culture, and the Greco-Roman culture mingled here.In 2018, the national health county (township) was reconfirmed.On December 6, 2019, it was selected as the pilot unit for the national farmers' cooperatives to promote the quality of the whole county. In 2022, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Shaya County will be 12.21 billion yuan, with an increase of 9.6%. Among them: the added value of primary industry is 3.09 billion yuan, the added value of secondary industry is 4.36 billion yuan; the added value of tertiary industry is 4.76 billion yuan, an increase of 6.3%.
