Shaoshan City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, administered by Xiangtan City, is located in south-central China, east-central Hunan Province in the Xiangzhong hilly region, west of downtown Xiangtan City, in a subtropical humid climate zone. As of 2022, the city has 2 towns and 2 townships under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 247.33 square kilometers and a resident population of 103,600. On December 26, 1990, the Shaoshan District of Xiangtan City was abolished, and the county-level Shaoshan City was established. Shaoshan City is the hometown of Mao Zedong, the great leader of Chinese people of all races, and the place where he lived, studied, labored and engaged in revolutionary activities during his adolescence, and Mao Zedong's former residence is a nationally renowned revolutionary memorial site, a national patriotic education base, a national key scenic spot, and an excellent tourist city in China; at the same time, it is also the ChangZhuTan Two-Shape Society Comprehensive Supporting Reform Pilot Zone and the ChangZhuTan National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone An important part of the city.In December 2019, it became a pilot unit for the construction of the national rural governance system.On January 29, 2021, it was selected to the list of regions in Hunan Province that have achieved significant results in real efforts.
