Wanning City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province, is located in the southeastern part of Hainan Island, with geographic coordinates between 18°35′-19°06′ north latitude and 110°00′-110°34′ east longitude, with a land area of 1,883.5 square kilometers and a sea area of 2,550.1 square kilometers. Wanning City has a tropical monsoon maritime climate, with no scorching heat in summer, no severe cold in winter, and distinct dry and rainy seasons. As of May 2022, Wanning has 12 towns under its jurisdiction (including 5 new residences established after the reform of agricultural reclamation), 1 state-run forest farm, and 1 Overseas Chinese Tourism Economic Zone, with a total of 207 administrative villages (communities). The Municipal People's Government is located in Wanning Township. As of the end of 2022, Wanning City has a resident population of 556,000 people.
Wanning City has a long and distinguished history. As early as in the Neolithic period, there will be human beings living and breathing, the Southern Song Dynasty Shaoxing seven years (1137), began to set up Wanning County, the county name has been used; August 5, 1996, the withdrawal of Wanning County, set up Wanning City. Wanning City, the city's name comes from "Wanfu Pianzhen, Wanjiakangning". Wanning City, Hainan region within the territory of the ring road highway, Hainan Island Railway way, set up three railway stations such as Wanning Station. Wanning City has China betel nut township, China Calligraphy Township, China Wushu Township and other titles. Wanning City Dongshanling Cultural Tourism Area, Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden, Hainan Liulianling Revolutionary Memorial Site Scenic Spot, Bali Village Scenic Spot in Wanning City, M1 Coffee Fantasy Workshop and other attractions.
In 2022, Wanning Municipality realized a gross domestic product (GDP) of 29.874 billion yuan, calculated at comparable prices (the same below), an increase of 2.4% year-on-year. Among them, the added value of primary industry was 9.542 billion yuan, up 4.5% year-on-year; the added value of secondary industry was 7.492 billion yuan, up 7.5% year-on-year; and the added value of tertiary industry was 12.841 billion yuan, down 1.4% year-on-year. The structure of the three industries was 31.9:25.1:43.0.
