Kekedala City was officially approved for establishment on March 16, 2015, and inaugurated on April 12 of the same year. It is a county-level city under the direct administration of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the eighth city administered by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
Kekedala City is located in the heart of the Yixing River Valley, at the southern end of the Kogurqin Mountains in the northern range of the Tianshan Mountains. It lies 25 kilometers east of Yining, the capital of Yixing Prefecture,40 kilometers west of the Khorgos Port, and 30 kilometers south of the Dulat Port. The city’s total administrative area spans 979.71 square kilometers, encompassing the entire territories of the 63rd, 64th, and 68th Regiments of the Fourth Corps, as well as parts of the 66th and 67th Regiments. With a total population of 75,000, Kokdala serves as a key hub at the western end of China’s “Silk Road Economic Belt” and a bridgehead for the Corps’ western opening-up efforts.
