Established in 1992, the Urumqi High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is a national-level high-tech industrial development zone approved by the State Council. In 2011, the Urumqi High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and Xinshi District of Urumqi City implemented a system of “integrated district and municipal administration.”The planned area covers approximately 300 square kilometers (with the core area spanning about 50 square kilometers). As Xinjiang’s first national-level high-tech industrial development zone, it serves as the engine driving innovation-led development in the core area of the “Silk Road Economic Belt” and has been successively designated as a “National Pilot for Innovative Biomedical Industrial Clusters,” a “National Intellectual Property Demonstration Park,” and a “National Demonstration Base for Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation.”
