Johor (Malay: Johor) is one of the thirteen states of Malaysia, with Johor Bahru as its capital and Muar as its capital. Johor is located in the southernmost tip of western Malaysia, east of the South China Sea, west of the Straits of Malacca, south across the Straits of Johor and Singapore adjacent. It has an area of 19,016 square kilometers, 3,742,200 (including 357,200 expatriates, 2018), and 10 districts. The most significant economic activities in Johor are services, manufacturing, and agriculture, and the state government has established the Iskandar Malaysia Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and the Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development Program (RAPID) in Bianjalan.The per capita GDP of Johor in 2016 was RM31,952, which is lower than the Malaysian per capita GDP of RM38,887. Johor is a year-round sunny state with a tropical rainforest climate and is home to many historical buildings and artifacts, islands, golf courses, and theme parks.On January 31, 2003, Kuala Lumpur, Tanjung Biai, and Pulau Purai in Johor were classified as "Wetlands of International Importance" under the Ramsar Convention.
