Maoming High-Tech Zone was formerly known as the Guangdong Maoming Petrochemical Industrial Park, established in August 2003. It was designated as a provincial-level high-tech industrial development zone in November 2010 and upgraded to a national-level high-tech industrial development zone in February 2018. In September 2011, it implemented a “zone-town interaction” management system (assuming administrative responsibility for Qijing Town).In December 2024, the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government assigned the High-Tech Zone a new mandate to “return to its core mission and focus on economic development,” leading the way in exploring reforms to the management system and mechanisms of economic functional zones (with Qijing Town returning to the administration of Dianbai District). The total recognized area of the chemical industrial park within the zone is 11.86 square kilometers.
Maoming High-Tech Zone currently hosts 130 enterprises, including 52 industrial enterprises above designated size, 2 “Little Giant” enterprises (specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative), 19 provincial-level innovative small and medium-sized enterprises, and 19 provincial-level specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative enterprises.and 32 high-tech enterprises. It has been recognized as a “County (City, District) with Good Manufacturing Development in Guangdong Province” for two consecutive years and was designated as a 2023 Specialized Industrial Park (Green Petrochemicals). It is a National Comprehensive Pilot Zone for New-Type Urbanization, a National Torch Maoming High-Tech Zone Petrochemical Specialized Industrial Base, and a National Intellectual Property Pilot Park. It also serves as a National Demonstration Base for Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration and Innovation and a Major Industrial Cluster Zone in Guangdong Province.
