Thanks to the joint efforts of Guichuan United and Foshan City, their investment promotion collaboration has continued to achieve breakthroughs.
Through Guichuan United’s targeted introduction, a well-known food company signed a 2 billion yuan investment agreement with Foshan in July 2022 and has now officially secured the land.
Previously, Guichuan United had already helped Foshan attract the Taijishan Machinery Equipment Production Base project, the Hanqingda Technology Smart Manufacturing Base project, and the Osma Intelligent Equipment Base project. Combined with this latest food project, the total investment now stands at 4.65 billion yuan.
By continuously facilitating the establishment of major enterprises and projects, the partnership between GuChuan United and Foshan has entered a new phase of success.
01 Tapping into Shenzhen’s Potential: Focusing on Targeted Investment Promotion
It is often said that Guangzhou and Foshan are a perfect match.
However, while advancing the “Guangzhou-Foshan Integration” to elevate the city’s status, Foshan has also proactively embraced Shenzhen to tap into its spillover benefits.
The aforementioned investment projects serve as clear evidence of this.
Hanqingda Technology and Osma CNC are both high-tech enterprises that Guchuan United helped Foshan attract from Shenzhen.
Compared to major cities in the “Shenzhen periphery”—such as Dongguan and Huizhou—which have a geographical advantage in connecting with Shenzhen, Foshan stands out despite its lack of proximity. This success is primarily due to two factors:
1. Deep Focus: Driving Investment Through Services
In recent years, Foshan has deeply focused on the spillover effects of Shenzhen’s electronics and information technology as well as equipment manufacturing industries, actively introducing corresponding support policies and incentive measures while continuously refining its toolkit.
Additionally, investment promotion agencies at both the municipal and district levels have established “leadership teams + task forces” to clear obstacles for project commencement.
Take the Osma Intelligent Equipment Base project as an example. What convinced project leader Liu Jianguo to commit was a single statement from a Gaoming District official: “If anyone tries to swindle or extort you after you’ve settled here, let me know, and I’ll remove them from their post immediately.”
Such a commitment demonstrated the sense of responsibility among Foshan’s officials and allowed him to see the boundless potential for development in this city.
On November 25, 2022, the project successfully secured its land use rights.
On December 15, 2022, in less than a month, the project obtained its construction permit and began construction.
2. Breaking the Mold: Mobilizing Multiple Forces
Establishing an Investment Promotion Bureau, setting up an innovation and entrepreneurship guidance fund, and collaborating with third-party investment promotion agencies... In recent years, Foshan has actively innovated its investment promotion methods, leveraging diverse resources to attract major and high-quality investments.
In 2021, Cushman & Wakefield officially became Foshan’s global investment promotion partner.
In 2022, we assisted Foshan in hosting investment promotion conferences in Suzhou and Guangzhou, resulting in on-site project signings exceeding 10 billion yuan.
Today, the 1 billion yuan Taijishan Machinery Equipment Production Base project, the 650 million yuan Hanqingda Technology Smart Manufacturing Base project, and the 1 billion yuan Osma Intelligent Equipment Base project—all facilitated by Guchuan United—have successively commenced construction.
As Foshan implements its “Manufacturing First” strategy, GuChuan United has become an indispensable force.
02 Embracing the World, Delivering Greater Bay Area Opportunities
There is a saying in Foshan’s investment circles:
Foshan offers the infrastructure of a first-tier city at the cost of a second-tier city.
For this very reason, renowned enterprises from across the country and even around the world are turning their attention to Foshan, eager not to miss out on this wave of investment opportunities.
The food company that has recently established operations in Foshan is based in northern China and is actively expanding into the southern market; in South China alone, it has set up production bases in Dongguan, Nanning, Haikou, and other locations.
However, after careful consideration, the company ultimately chose to establish its South China regional headquarters in Foshan, which indirectly underscores Foshan’s immense appeal to manufacturing enterprises.
However, the company’s partnership with Foshan was not without its challenges; there were some differences in perspective regarding market access criteria.
Serving as a bridge between government and business, GuChuan United played a crucial role in this process.
The investment promotion team at GuChuan United assisted the company in conducting a comprehensive comparison of several potential sites from the perspectives of carrying capacity, preferential policies, and relocation costs, concluding that Foshan still held the greatest advantages. Subsequently, the team facilitated communication and mutual visits between both parties, ultimately securing the project’s implementation.
The professionalism and efficiency of the investment promotion team earned high praise from both the government and the company.
In fact, as early as 2015, GuChuan United had already established a branch in Guangzhou.
Having deeply engaged in the Greater Bay Area for eight years, we have established close investment promotion partnerships with Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Shaoguan, Heyuan, Yangjiang, and other cities.
We hope to convey the potential and opportunities of the Greater Bay Area to every investor and, by building an investment promotion ecosystem, empower the entire region.
03 Innovative Foshan: Unleashing Endless Possibilities
In 2016, Midea Group, headquartered in Beijiao Town, Shunde District, Foshan, established a research and development center in Shenzhen.
In an interview, Chairman Fang Hongbo stated that if high-end R&D talent in smart home technology was unwilling to relocate to Beijiao, they could choose to join the company in Shenzhen instead.
At that time, Foshan placed greater emphasis on the “Shenzhen R&D + Foshan Manufacturing” model, and its strategic布局 in the field of technological innovation was not yet prominent.
But now, an increasing number of companies have begun to view Foshan as the main battleground for technological innovation.
On January 11, the Midea Digital Technology Industrial Park project, with a total investment of 10 billion yuan, successfully secured land in Shunde. It is expected to attract over 2,000 high-end global tech talents and establish a national demonstration base for Industry 4.0 smart manufacturing.
On January 28, Bangpu Recycling—a leading battery recycling and reuse enterprise under CATL—signed an agreement with Foshan for a new materials industry project with a total investment exceeding 20 billion yuan.
In addition, Bangpu Recycling’s 5 billion yuan global R&D center and innovation headquarters under construction in Foshan is scheduled to become operational by the end of the year.
Entrepreneurs vote with their feet.
The fact that such major enterprises and projects have chosen to locate their R&D centers and innovation headquarters in Foshan rather than Guangzhou or Shenzhen speaks volumes.
At the Foshan Municipal Party Committee’s Economic Work Conference on January 28, representatives from five companies were invited to share their insights.
The selection of these five corporate representatives also holds deeper significance:
Dow Technology, a publicly listed company in the new materials sector, has expanded from ceramic materials into new energy battery materials;
Kaili Air Conditioning, a foreign-invested enterprise in the appliance sector and a leader in HVAC and refrigeration;
Galanz, a local Foshan private enterprise in the electrical appliance sector, has successfully transitioned to smart manufacturing and established a global presence, with full control over its industrial chain;
Zhongqi New Materials, a listed company in the home building materials sector that has pivoted to photovoltaic new materials;
Bangpu Recycling, a subsidiary of CATL, is a leading enterprise in battery recycling and reuse.
Some belong to traditional manufacturing, while others fall under strategic emerging industries, but their common trait is a strong emphasis on technological innovation and a continuous shift toward high-end and intelligent transformation.
To successfully stage the grand production of “Manufacturing as the Mainstay,” what Foshan needs most right now is precisely this group of innovative enterprises with core competitiveness.
From absorbing Shenzhen’s innovation spillover to becoming a global hub for technological innovation, Foshan is unlocking even more possibilities.
As a close partner of Foshan, GuChuan United believes that Foshan will undoubtedly deliver another “impressive track record” and emerge as a new growth pole in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
We also sincerely hope that investors and entrepreneurs will turn their attention to Foshan, invest in Foshan, and put down roots here to share in the development opportunities of the Greater Bay Area and work together to create a brighter future!
Let’s look forward to Foshan’s performance.
