The State-level Zhangzhou Investment Promotion Bureau Economic and Technological Development Zone (hereinafter referred to as the Zhangzhou Development Zone) was established on December 28, 1992. Located on the southern shore of Xiamen Bay, it is only 3.5 nautical miles from the nearest point on Xiamen Island. As part of the national strategy to promote “three links” with Taiwan, the zone replicates the Shekou development model to create a comprehensive park integrating port and shipping logistics, port-adjacent industries, and urban supporting facilities.The zone boasts well-developed transportation infrastructure, including expressways, port-access railways, and cross-sea bridges. On April 25, 2010, with the approval of the State Council, it was upgraded to a National-Level Economic and Technological Development Zone and now implements the policies applicable to such zones.
