The Yuxi National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was approved by the State Council in August 2012 as a national-level high-tech industrial development zone; it is the national-level high-tech industrial development zone located closest to the countries and regions of South and Southeast Asia. The park has a total planned area of 65.76 square kilometers, divided into the Core Area (South Zone and Jiulong Zone), Longquan Zone, and Hongta Industrial Park. The Hongta Industrial Park is primarily managed by the Hongta District Party Committee and District Government, while the Yuxi High-Tech Zone actually
administer the Core Area and Longquan Zone, covering a total of 22.21 square kilometers. The park focuses on fostering the cigarette and supporting industries, the biopharmaceutical
industry, and the new energy and new materials industries. Among these, the South Zone has a planned area of 6.77 square kilometers and prioritizes the development of the biopharmaceutical and healthcare industries, as well as the cigarette and supporting industries, aiming to create a demonstration zone for the integration of industry and urban development; the Jiulong Zone has a planned area of 6.56 square kilometers and focuses on developing green food, cigarette supporting industries, biopharmaceuticals, and the digital economy; The Longquan Zone covers a planned area of 8.88 square kilometers and focuses on the development of new energy batteries and new materials industries.
