Kashgar Region is located in the northwest of the People's Republic of China and the southwest of Xinjiang. It is bordered by the Taklamakan Desert in the east, Keping County and Awati County in the northeast, Atushi City, Wuqia County and Aketao County in the northwest, Pishan County in the southeast, Tajikistan in the west, and Afghanistan and Pakistan in the southwest. The Kashgar region was known as "Shule", "Renru" and "Shushu" in ancient times, including the ancient Shule (present-day Kashgar City, Shushu County, Shule County and Gashi County), Puli (present-day Tashkurgan), Shache, Yining (in present-day Yingjisha and Aketao), Wuhuozhao (in present-day southern Tashkurgan), and Xiyang (in present-day Yecheng). Among them, the added value of the primary industry amounted to 49.314 billion yuan, up 6.5% year-on-year, the added value of the secondary industry amounted to 29.934 billion yuan, up 7.6% year-on-year, and the added value of the tertiary industry amounted to 71.587 billion yuan, up 5.8% year-on-year.
