In recent years, Shunde has led all districts in Foshan’s GDP rankings. It is the nation’s largest production base for air conditioners, refrigerators, water heaters, and dish sterilizers, as well as the world’s largest supplier of rice cookers and microwave ovens . Almost every household kitchen features at least one product “Made in Shunde.”

Compared to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Guangzhou, Foshan retains more of its traditional charm and moves at a more leisurely and unhurried pace, yet it does not lack the vitality of a modern city, nor is it short of entrepreneurs and major brands.

For years, Foshan’s per capita disposable income has been more than 1.5 times the national average. According to statistics, Foshan has as many as 74,000 “affluent households” with assets exceeding 6 million yuan, ranking first among all prefecture-level cities nationwide.
