On the morning of May 28, following a public auction conducted by the Municipal Public Resources Trading Center, Rizhao Weiyi Automobile Co., Ltd. successfully secured Plot 2019G-305.As one of the major industrial projects introduced to Rizhao by the Guchuan Alliance (for details on the project’s establishment, click → Rizhao, Shandong, Welcomes Great Wall Motors; The Matchmaker Turns Out to Be…), the Great Wall Motors Rizhao Base will become a flagship of Rizhao’s high-end manufacturing sector upon completion.

Located south of Shenzhen Road and east of Suzhou Road in the Development Zone, the plot covers an area of 931.17 mu and will serve as the site for Great Wall Motor’s main vehicle manufacturing plant. This marks a significant step forward in the construction of the Great Wall Motor Rizhao Production Base and R&D Center project.

Currently, the project’s planning and design work has been largely completed. Once approvals for land use, planning, and construction are finalized, on-site construction will commence. According to the plan, the test track, finished vehicle parking lot, and the four major production workshops—stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly—will all begin construction. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2020, followed by equipment installation, debugging, and trial production, with full-scale production set to begin in early 2021.

The Great Wall Motor Rizhao Production Base project has a designed annual production capacity of 300,000 units and will primarily manufacture products from Great Wall’s premium WEY series. Located in the Rizhao Economic Development Zone, the project covers a planned area of approximately 2,000 mu and includes a full production line encompassing stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly.

Positioned as high-end, luxury SUVs, the WEY series products offer broad market prospects and represent a crucial component of Great Wall Motor’s strategic layout. The implementation of this project will lay a solid foundation for the clustering of the automotive industry and the attraction of talent in Rizhao.
