The Wanrong Modern Agricultural Industrial Demonstration Zone was approved for establishment by the People’s Government of Shanxi Province (Jin Zheng Han [2019] No. 80) on July 31, 2019, and was incorporated into the management system of provincial-level development zones. The total planned area is 189.29 square kilometers, with a core area of 2.79 square kilometers. The primary industries are agricultural product processing—with a focus on apples—and rural tourism.In 2020, newly established industrial projects in the zone completed investments of 344 million yuan; fixed-asset investment reached 608 million yuan, representing a growth rate of 37.79%; the value-added growth rate for agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fisheries was 4.07%; the output value of the agricultural product processing industry reached 2.243 billion yuan, while the total agricultural output value reached 1.348 billion yuan, resulting in a ratio of agricultural product processing output value to total agricultural output value of 1.66;The coverage rate of green and organic agricultural products reached 61.4%. In accordance with the Provincial Party Committee’s new positioning and requirements to “build an upgraded version of the development zone and secure victory on the new battlefield of high-quality development,” the district has established the strategic goal of creating the “Four Zones and Two Bases”: a National Demonstration Zone for Specialized and High-Quality Agricultural Development, a National Cluster for Nutritional and Healthy Food Processing, a National Leading Zone for the Integration of Agriculture, Culture, and Tourism, a National Pioneer Zone for Green Agricultural Development, a Modern Agricultural Science and Technology R&D and Application Base, and a New-Type Farmer Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base.
