The Shandong Pingyin Economic Development Zone was established in 2001 under the original name of Jixi Industrial Park. In 2006, it was designated as a provincial-level industrial park and renamed the Shandong Pingyin Industrial Park. In January 2019, with the approval of the provincial government, it was restructured and upgraded to the Shandong Pingyin Economic Development Zone.The Development Zone covers an actual area of 30 square kilometers. It has established a development framework of “One Park, Three Zones” (namely the Core Zone, Eastern New City Zone, and Kongcun Zone), and has cultivated five pillar industries: mechanical equipment, food and pharmaceuticals, green building materials, new energy and energy conservation, and functional new materials.
