The winners of the “2022 Automotive Innovation Technology Awards” were recently announced.
Boma Technology’s proprietary “High-Efficiency Hydrodynamic 3D Bearing for Hybrid-Specific Engine Turbochargers” technology won the “Technical Innovation Award,” and Boma Technology also received the “Outstanding Enterprise Award.”
Following the completion of a cross-border acquisition, Boma Technology’s customer base has expanded further, and the company has now joined the ranks of the world’s leading turbocharger suppliers.
In 2019, driven by Guichuan United, Boma Technology established operations at the Jinan China-Europe Manufacturing International Enterprise Park, investing in a turbocharger shaft production project to systematically expand its production capacity.
This investment and site selection represent a crucial step for Boma Technology in accelerating the transition to intelligent manufacturing, and GuChuan United played a pivotal role in facilitating the project’s establishment.
Aligning with Germany’s Industry 4.0
Guchuan United Helps Shandong Accelerate Its Catch-up
In 2018, China’s Weishi Group and Fangyuan Capital acquired the German company “Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems GmbH” and renamed it Boma Technology (referred to as “BMTS”).
Six months later, BMTS turned a profit.
It was precisely after this that BMTS embarked on a path of expansion: in addition to establishing factories globally, it also established its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Shanghai to be closer to its Asia-Pacific customers.
That same year, when BMTS was selecting a site in China to build a turbo shaft production base, industrial parks from eight cities—including Jinan—immediately reached out to express interest.
In terms of hardware conditions alone, the newly approved Jinan Sino-German Enterprise Cooperation Zone was not particularly outstanding.
However, the project’s industrial clustering effect was strong, and its future role in boosting regional economic development was evident. Regardless of the outcome, we had to go all out.
As the exclusive agent and service provider for the China-Europe Manufacturing International Enterprise Park, Gu Chuan United assisted the park’s four task forces in meticulously preparing a proposal covering everything from the construction of Industry 4.0-standard factory buildings, administrative procedures, and financial guarantees to road infrastructure, utilities, and employee dining and accommodation.
The GuChuan United service team actively reached out to potential partners, accompanied them throughout site visits, and assisted in resolving various issues that arose during the engagement process.
With the assistance of GuChuan United, this turbine shaft project—spanning 15 mu, featuring six production lines, with an annual output of 2.5 million units and an annual output value of 260 million yuan—was ultimately successfully established in Jinan.
Notably, the “dual-track” vocational education system jointly established by Jinan, the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and local vocational colleges perfectly addressed the company’s need for technical talent.
Attracting Investment While Construction Is Underway
“Airport Speed” Creates the “Jinan Miracle”
Located within the Sino-German Enterprise Cooperation Zone of Jinan’s Airport Economic Zone, the China-Europe Manufacturing International Enterprise Park is a model project exemplifying the principle of “attracting investment while constructing, ready for use upon completion.”
Upon receiving BMTS’s request to move in, the China-Europe Manufacturing International Enterprise Park completed the construction of standard factory buildings in less than 100 days, fully demonstrating the “Airport Speed.”
Yang Zhuojun, then Global CEO of BMTS, also praised this “Jinan Miracle.”
Yang Zhuojun stated that BMTS is not merely expanding production capacity, but is optimizing its cost structure and global footprint.
In recent years, as global emissions standards have become increasingly stringent, automakers have placed greater emphasis on turbocharging systems, which enable engines to deliver stronger power with lower displacement.
Currently, the penetration rate of turbocharging in the Chinese automotive market is not particularly high, standing at around 50%. However, as emission standards become even stricter, the future penetration rate is expected to rise to 75%, indicating significant growth potential.
Subsequently, the Boma Technology turbocharger shaft project became the first Industry 4.0 initiative from Germany to commence production within the park.
Leveraging the leading role of flagship enterprises, the Jinan Airport Economic Zone is fully utilizing its resource advantages to build a model zone for opening up and cooperation, as well as a pioneer zone for the transformation of old and new growth drivers.
The vigorous development of the Jinan Sino-German Cooperation Zone epitomizes Shandong’s efforts to benchmark against German manufacturing and build a strong province in advanced manufacturing.
Although competition exists among different countries and enterprises, only by actively seeking cooperation alongside competition can we continuously achieve breakthroughs and enhance efficiency.
In recent years, Shandong and Germany have continuously deepened cooperation in areas such as scientific research, innovation, and investment and financing, promoting the close integration of innovation chains with industrial, financial, and talent chains, with the aim of jointly addressing challenges in key technology R&D and industrialization.
Close Collaboration Between Government and Enterprises
Tanigawa & Partners Focuses on “Targeted Investment Promotion”
With the evolution of investment promotion concepts, attracting investment is no longer merely about bringing in projects; it requires comprehensive evaluation and consideration of factors such as regional development strategies and industrial clustering.
After 14 years of hard work and experience, GuChuan United has managed over 850,000 projects, with more than 6,800 successfully implemented.
Leveraging its self-developed big data system for investment promotion, a service team with extensive practical experience, and a nationwide network spanning 21 cities, GuChuan United has deeply engaged in government investment promotion and corporate site selection, becoming a bridge connecting government and enterprises.
