Yibin, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Sichuan Province, is located in the combination of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces, at the confluence of the Jinsha River, the Minjiang River, and the Yangtze River; the terrain is high in the southwest and low in the northeast as a whole, with a humid climate in the central subtropical monsoon and a total area of 13,283 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has three municipal districts and seven counties. As of the end of 2022, the city had a resident population of 4,618,000 people.
Yibin is known as "the first city on the Yangtze River, the wine capital of China, and the bamboo capital of China", and has a rich cultural heritage. It was renamed Yibin County from Bo Dao County in the fourth year of the Song Dynasty (1114). With a history of 2,200 years of city building, 4,000 years of brewing history, and 3,000 years of tea planting history, it is a famous national historical and cultural city, and a big city of type II. The city has been home to many celebrities over the ages, nurturing countless revolutionary martyrs and literary masters such as Li Shuoxun, Zhao Yiman, Yang Hansheng, Tang Junyi, and Yu Zehong, and accumulating colorful cultures of the Yangtze River, wine, Bo and Miao, Nezha, anti-war, and folk customs and traditions. Yibin is a nationally identified regional center city along the river city belt, one of the seven regional center cities cultivated and developed by Sichuan, a regional center city on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River identified by the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, a national comprehensive transportation hub, and a pivotal gateway of Sichuan's southward opening up. 2020, Sichuan Province approved the support to carry out the construction of the provincial-level innovation-oriented city. There are tourist attractions such as Shunan Bamboo Sea, Jinqiu Lake, Lizhuang Ancient Town, Qidonggou Tourist Scenic Spot, Xijiashan Ancient Folk Residence, Laojun Mountain and so on.
In 2022, Yibin City will realize a regional GDP of 342.784 billion yuan, an increase of 4.5% over the previous year.
