Governments Introduction
Jintan District, under the jurisdiction of Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, is located in southern Jiangsu. It lies at the geographical center of the Nanjing-Shanghai-Hangzhou triangle, between 31°33′42″ and 31°53′22″ north latitude,between 119°17′45″ and 119°44′59″ east longitude. It borders Wujin District of Changzhou to the east, is bounded by Maoshan Mountain to the west and adjoins Jurong City, borders Changdang Lake to the south, facing Liyang and Yixing across the water, and neighbors Danyang City and Dantu District of Zhenjiang to the north. It has a total area of 975.68 square kilometers. Jintan District has a humid, monsoon climate typical of the northern subtropics, characterized by distinct seasons, ample sunshine, abundant rainfall, and a long frost-free period. As of the end of 2022, Jintan District administered 6 towns and 3 subdistricts. The District People’s Government is headquartered in Xicheng Subdistrict. As of the end of 2024, Jintan District had a permanent resident population of 596,600.
Jintan has a long history, with early inhabitants settling and living there as far back as the Stone Age. In the fourth year of the Chui Gong era of the Wu Zhou dynasty (688 AD), it was renamed Jintan County. While the county’s name has remained unchanged, its territorial boundaries and administrative affiliations have undergone numerous changes. On November 10, 1993, with the approval of the State Council, Jintan County was abolished and Jintan City (county-level) was established.In April 2015, with the approval of the State Council, Jintan City (county-level) was abolished, and Jintan District of Changzhou City was established. The Changzhou-Lishui Highway runs east-west across Jintan District, while the Zhenjiang-Guangde Highway crosses it north-south. The district has been awarded honorary titles such as National Advanced Unit for Culture, National Garden City, County in the Second Batch of Revolutionary Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Zones, National Model County for “Four Good Rural Roads,” and Jiangsu Provincial Civilized City. Notable attractions within the district include Oriental Salt Lake City, the Flower Valley Fairy Tale Scenic Area, Maoshan Forest World, Hua Luogeng Park, and the Jintan Museum.
In 2024, Jintan District’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached 140.254 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.9%.
