The Zhangjiagang Economic and Technological Development Zone is located at the heart of the most dynamic economic belt along the Yangtze River and the coast, adjacent to the Zhangjiagang Port—a major port with an annual throughput of over 100 million tons. It has attracted a cluster of high-tech enterprises in fields such as electronic information, new materials, opto-mechatronics, and environmental protection. The “new materials” industry is centered on products such as Rainbow glass substrates and Junma steel cord.
The Zhangjiagang Economic and Technological Development Zone is positioned to serve four key functions: a base for innovation and entrepreneurship, a hub for high-end talent, an incubator for high-tech enterprises, and a catalyst for high-tech industries. Innovation platforms within the zone are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and the concentration of innovative talent is accelerating. The zone has completed a comprehensive renovation of the 60,000-square-meter “incubator” within the Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park, raised the entry threshold, and introduced an elimination mechanism. It has established two national-level innovation and entrepreneurship platforms: the Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park and the East China International Technology Innovation Park.
