Total revenue from industry, technology, and trade surged from 850 million yuan in 1998 to 17.5 billion yuan in 2008—a 21-fold increase; tax revenue soared from 21.5 million yuan to 860 million yuan—a 40-fold increase;In particular, tax revenue now accounts for one-seventh of Fangshan District’s total tax revenue. A virtuous cycle has been established in which new pharmaceuticals, new materials, urban industries, and the energy sector develop in tandem. The Liangxiang Economic Development Zone has become a new growth engine and pillar of the Fangshan District economy.
