Mentougou District, under the Beijing Municipality, is located in the due west-southwest part of the Beijing urban area, neighboring Haidian District and Shijingshan District in the east, connecting with Fangshan District and Fengtai District in the south, bordering with Zhuolu County and Laishui County in the west, and bordering with Changping District and Huailai County in the north, with a total area of 1,447.85 square kilometers. As of 2022, Mentougou District has a resident population of 396,000 people. It has nine towns and four streets under its jurisdiction.
In the early Neolithic period, there were "Donghulin people" living and reproducing in Mentougou District. During the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, the district belonged to Youzhou, and in May 1958, the Beijing West Mining District was abolished, and the district was named Mentougou District. There are 108 and 109 national highways and three stone highways running through the area. It is an old district with excellent revolutionary tradition, the third batch of practice and innovation bases of "green water and green mountains are golden silver mountains", the national pilot city of water ecological civilization, the fourth batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties, the second batch of national regional tourism demonstration zones, the national demonstration zone of rural sewage treatment, and the third batch of water-saving society construction standard area, Nominated City of National Civilized City in the 2021-2023 Creation Cycle, and Model County of Concentrated and Continuous Protection and Utilization of Traditional Villages.
