Shengsi County, also known as Shengsi Islands, is part of Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, located east of Hangzhou Bay and southeast of the mouth of the Yangtze River, and is the easternmost island county of Zhejiang Province and the northernmost of Zhoushan Islands. It consists of 404 islands of various sizes, of which 16 are inhabited, with a total area of 8,824 square kilometers, including a land area of 86 square kilometers and a sea area of 8,738 square kilometers. As of 2018, Shengsi County has 3 towns and 4 townships under its jurisdiction, with the county government located in Caiyuan Town, and as of the end of 2022, the resident population of Shengsi County was 66,600,000 people.
Shengsi County, with a subtropical maritime monsoon climate, has four distinct seasons, with no severe cold in winter and no scorching heat in summer, plenty of light and a small temperature difference between latitudes 30°24′ to 31°04′ north and longitudes 121°30′ to 123°25′ east. Shengsi Liandao Scenic Area is an island-type national key scenic spot integrating marine culture and island folk customs, with sightseeing, leisure and vacation and scientific and educational activities as its main functions. It is one of the first and second batch of pilot areas in Zhejiang High-Quality Development and Construction of Common Wealth Demonstration Area.In 2022, Shengsi County's GDP will be 13 billion yuan, an increase of 6.2% compared with that of 2021 at comparable prices.
