Mining District, belonging to Yangquan City, Shanxi Province, is located in the southwestern part of Yangquan City, between latitude 37°51′ and 37°55′ north and longitude 113°29′ and 113°33 minutes east, and is situated at the midpoint between Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, and Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province. As of 2017, the mining area has a total area of 87.27 square kilometers, with 6 streets, 44 communities and 18 administrative villages. According to the seventh census data, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of the mining area was 230,691 people.
In January 1970, the Revolutionary Committee of Shanxi Province decided to add Yangquan Mining District, directly under the Yangquan City. The main attractions of the mining area are Pingtan Mawang Temple.
In 2021, the annual regional GDP of the mining area was 22.36 billion yuan.
