Pingdu City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, administered by Qingdao City, is located in the western part of Jiaodong Peninsula, northwest of Qingdao City. It is bordered by Laixi City and Jimo District in the east, Changyi City and Gaomi City in Weifang City in the west and southwest, Jiaozhou City in the south, and Laizhou City in Yantai City in the north, with a topography roughly high in the north and low in the south, and belonging to the warm-temperate zone of East Asian semi-humid monsoon area, with a total area of 3,175.63 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has 5 streets and 12 towns under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, the city had a resident population of 1,184,500. In 1989, Pingdu County was abolished and the county-level Pingdu City was established. As early as 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, there are ancestors in this area, "Pingdu" as the name of the county has been more than 2,200 years, was the political, economic and cultural center of Qi in the Jiaodong Peninsula, the "Tian Dang Dazhuang Huo Niu Formation" historical allusion took place in Pingdu. Pingdu City is located in the throat of Shandong Peninsula, about 100 kilometers away from the main city of Qing Yan Wei, 12 kilometers away from Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport, is the longest mileage of highway in the country county-level cities. Built and running the Haizheng Railway and Delong Yan Railway and Jiaoji Railway connected to the Jiaodong Peninsula as a north-south transportation artery. The Weilai high-speed railway passing through Pingdu will be completed and open to traffic in 2020. The 1,000 square kilometers of pristine mountainous area in the northeast is laid out with Dazeshan Provincial Forest Park and Provincial Scenic Spot, which is a national environmental protection model city and national ecological demonstration area. In 2023, Pingdu City realized a GDP of 87.561 billion yuan, an increase of 5.2% over the previous year at constant prices.
