Benxi, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province, is the central city of eastern Liaoning Province as approved by the State Council, located in the southeastern part of Liaoning Province, belonging to the mid-temperate humid climate zone with four distinct seasons, with a total area of 8,413.96 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, Benxi had a resident population of 1.267 million, with a resident urbanization rate of 79.86%. As of June 2023, Benxi has four districts and two autonomous counties under its jurisdiction, with the municipal people's government stationed at 188-1 Maple Leaf Road in the High-Tech Industrial Development Zone. The Benxi area belonged to Qingzhou and Yingzhou during the Xia and Shang dynasties, respectively. During the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Xiangping County of Liaodong County. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, it was reclassified as Xuanzu County. During the Wei and Jin Dynasties and the following centuries, the region changed its affiliation. During the Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Liaocheng Prefecture of the Andong Prefecture, and then to Bohai Prefecture. In the Yuan Dynasty, it belonged to Liaoyang County, Dongning Province, Liaoyang Road, Liaoyang Province. In the Ming Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Liaodong Commanding General's Department. In 1906, Benxi County was set up, and on July 25, 1992, it was approved by the State Council as a "larger city". Benxi is known as "Yandong Shengjing", also known as "Green Steel Capital", "Chinese Medicine Capital" and "Maple Leaf Capital". It is also known as "Green Steel Capital", "Pharmaceutical Capital of China" and "Maple Leaf Capital". It has six business cards, namely "Wonderful Cave, Famous Mountain, Beautiful Water, Hot Spring, Maple Leaf and Folk Customs", and is an important base for Northeast China Anti League, and is one of the cities in China which has "Double Heritage" of nature and culture, and has the World Cultural Heritage of Huanren Wulushan City, and has water holes, Grand Canyon, Wu Nu Mountain, Maple Valley, Huaxi Mu, Guanshan Lake, Tieshashan and other national A-level scenic spots above 51, provincial tourism resort 3, the national key village of rural tourism 7, the provincial boutique bed and breakfast 43, is China's excellent tourist city, China's city of hot springs, and China's important old industrial base, rich in mineral deposits, LiaoYan in Benxi is one of the three most famous inkstones in China. In 2023, Benxi realized a gross regional product of 97.1 billion yuan, an increase of 5.8% over the previous year.
