Once the capital of the Kingdom of Laos, Champasak is a lazy town with only one road. The main road runs parallel to the river before turning inland and leading to the WatPhuChampasak temple of Champasak, which resides high on the mountainside. Although some people choose to come to this site for a day trip from Ba Sai, most tourists use the town of Champasak as a base for visiting this site. Champasak has a beautiful Mekong-side beach and a peaceful atmosphere. Various activities are centered at the ferry terminal and at the other end of town at the Cham Pa Sevap Temple. Hotels, on the other hand, are mainly concentrated near the fountain.
