Xiaogan, also known as Xiaocheng, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province, located in the south of Tongbai Mountain and Dabie Mountain, north of the Yangtze River and east of the Han River, bordering with the East and West Lake districts of Wuhan and Xiantao City to the south, Xinyang City of Henan Province to the north, Suizhou, Jingmen, Tianmen to the west, and Hong'an County of Huanggang City and Huangpi District of Wuhan City to the east. The city is about 60 kilometers away from Wuhan city center and 30 kilometers away from Wuhan Tianhe International Airport; the landforms from south to north are plains, hills, and mountainous areas, and the climate has the advantages of both north and south; as of 2023, it has one municipal district under its jurisdiction, three counties, and three county-level cities under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 8,910 square kilometers; at the end of 2022, Xiaogan had a resident population of 4,185,800 people.
Xiaogan City is named after Dong Yong, a filial son of the Eastern Han Dynasty, who sold his body to bury his father and performed filial piety to touch the sky and move the earth; it is a regional central city of Hubei Province, an important member of the Wuhan City Circle and the city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and a comprehensive pilot area for the state's new type of urbanization, and also one of the cities with the most potential and competitiveness in central China, with its comprehensive competitiveness ranked in the forefront in Hubei; the city boasts a number of A-level scenic spots, among them, Shuangfeng Mountain, Tangchi Hot Springs, Tianzhi Lake, Guanyin Lake, and Tianyu Lake, five tourist resorts are rated as national 4A scenic spots.
