Hezhou, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is located in the northeastern part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, at the junction of Hunan, Guangdong, and Gui, bordering Huaiji County, Lianzhou City, and Lianshan Zhuang and Yao Autonomous County of Guangdong Province to the east, Jiangyong County and Jianghua Yao Autonomous County of Hunan Province to the north, Guilin City to the west, and Wuzhou City to the south, and between latitude 23°39′0″-25°09′0″North and longitude 111°05′0″-112°03′0″East. It lies between latitude 23°39′0″-25°09′0″ north and longitude 111°03′0″ east. As of October 2021, Hezhou City has 2 districts and 3 counties under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 11,753 square kilometers; as of the end of 2022, Hezhou City had a resident population of 2,031,000 people.
Since ancient times, Hezhou has been the thoroughfare of Gui, Guangdong and Xiang provinces (regions), and has retained a historical and humanistic heritage spanning thousands of years. There are the ancient road culture with the Xiaoga ancient road as the cornerstone, the folk custom culture with the Nanling ethnic culture as the element, and the mining culture with the tin mining and metallurgy as the carrier. Before the Spring and Autumn and Warring States period, Hezhou belonged to Jiaotong; Cangwu County was set up in Han Dynasty, Linghe County was set up in Three Kingdoms, Hezhou County was set up in Sui Dynasty, and it belonged to Pingle Prefecture and Wuzhou Prefecture in Ming and Qing Dynasties; Hezhou area was set up in 1997; and Hezhou City was set up in 2002 with the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China after the abolition of Hezhou area.
Hezhou City is a subtropical monsoon climate, with abundant sunshine, abundant rainfall, rain and heat in the same season, the wet and dry seasons are obvious, and the frost-free period is long and so on, it is one of the key forest areas in Guangxi. Hezhou City is the hometown of Chinese Hakka, famous tea, strange stones, navel oranges and horseshoes. By the end of 2020, Hezhou has a forested area of 897,500 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 72.65%.In September 2020, Hezhou was announced by the Ministry of Housing and Construction as the second batch of model cities for assembled buildings.
In 2022, Hezhou city will realize a GDP of 97.216 billion yuan, up 3.4% year-on-year; the added value of the primary industry will be 17.704 billion yuan, up 5.9%; the added value of the secondary industry will be 38.747 billion yuan, up 6.2%; and the added value of the tertiary industry will be 40.766 billion yuan, up 0.3%.
