Taishan City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, is administered by Jiangmen City. Located in the southwestern part of the Pearl River Delta, Taishan is situated in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and an important node of the Maritime Silk Road, with a total land area of 3,308.24 square kilometers.At the end of 2022, Taishan City had a total household population of 957,500 people. The People's Government of Taishan City is stationed at No. 23 Zhongshan Road, Taicheng Street.In 2022, Taishan City had a resident population of 898,000, with an urbanization rate of 47.49%.
In the 12th year of Hongzhi of the Ming Dynasty (1499), the county was founded as Xinning County, which was subordinate to Guangzhou Prefecture of Guangdong Prefecture. In April of the sixth year of the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1867), Tuko was divided into two parts and Chixi Hall was established, directly under the Guangdong Chief Secretary. After the founding of the People's Republic of China until May 1952, Taishan and Chixi counties were subordinate to the Central Guangdong Prefecture of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and on April 17, 1992, Taishan County was abolished and Taishan City (county level) was established under the provincial jurisdiction. Taishan City is the first port for Guangfu people to go to the sea, Taishan City belongs to the Guangfu Cultural Belt, which is one of the birthplaces of Guangfu Culture, and Taishan City's local traditional culture is Guangfu Culture, and Taishan City has a long tradition of Guangfu Culture. Taishan City is known as "the first hometown of overseas Chinese" and "two Taishan's inside and outside", and there are more than 1.6 million Taishan villagers living overseas and in more than 90 countries and regions such as Hong Kong and Macao. Taishan City is famous as "the hometown of volleyball", "the hometown of Guangdong music", "the hometown of Chinese opera" and "the hometown of floating color art". "It is also a National Civilized City Nomination City and a National Forest City.
In 2023, Taishan City realized a GDP of 54.74 billion yuan, an increase of 6.3% over the previous year, with the added value of the primary industry at 11.644 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.1%; the added value of the secondary industry at 23.301 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.1%; and the added value of the tertiary industry at 19.795 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%. The proportion of the structure of the three industries is 21.27∶42.57∶36.16.
