Haidian District, belonging to Beijing Municipality, is located in the western and northwestern part of the main city of Beijing, neighboring Xicheng District and Chaoyang District in the east, adjoining Fengtai District in the south, bordering Shijingshan District and Mentougou District in the west, and bordering with Changping District in the north, lying between latitude 39°53′-40°09′ N and longitude 116°03′-116°23′ E. It has a total area of 431 square kilometers, and is the largest city in Beijing. The total area is 431 square kilometers. As of June 2023, Haidian District has 22 streets and 7 districts under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Haidian District had a resident population of 3.124 million. At the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, there was a shallow lake near the town of Haidian, so it was called "Haidian", i.e. today's Haidian. in September 1952, Haidian District was formally named, and in January 1963, it formed the area under the current jurisdiction. Haidian District is home to many colleges and universities and many scenic spots, including the famous Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and Beijing Normal University, as well as scenic spots such as the Summer Palace, Yuanmingyuan Garden and Fragrant Hills, etc. The district will realize the goal of "Haidian" by 2023. In 2023, Haidian District realized a GDP of 1102.02 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. By industry, the primary industry realized an added value of 150 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 27.6%; the secondary industry realized an added value of 81.09 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.1%; and the tertiary industry realized an added value of 1020.78 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.8%.
